Resurfacing may suit a driveway whose surface is worn but whose underlying construction remains stable. It is a different scope from repairing one damaged patch or excavating for a complete replacement. Start with the existing condition, then decide what can sensibly remain.
A new top layer cannot correct an unstable base, recurring settlement or an unresolved water problem. An assessment should explain why resurfacing is suitable and identify any repairs needed before it begins.
The details that make the difference.
Understand what stays beneath the surface
Describe cracks, potholes, previous patches and any recent utility work. Ask which parts of the existing construction can remain and what preparation is included. A neat new surface should follow a clear assessment.
Check every finished level
An overlay changes the height of the driveway. Check garage thresholds, inspection covers, paths, edge restraints and drainage channels together. Where a suitable transition cannot be achieved, a different construction approach may be needed.
Compare the whole scope
Include surface preparation, local repairs, the proposed material, drainage adjustments and disposal in the quotation. Agree temporary parking and follow the actual handover guidance before returning vehicles to the drive.

Short of somewhere suitable to park?
Pavement parking concerns are a reason to review your options. A new driveway, an extension or a repair may help you use your own space better, where the property and access are suitable.

Your questions, considered.
Can every tarmac driveway be resurfaced?+
No. The existing construction, damage, water movement and available finished levels need assessing. Resurfacing is not a substitute for rebuilding an unsuitable base.
Would a local repair be enough?+
Possibly. If the problem is confined to a small area, a correctly specified repair may be more proportionate. The repairs page explains potholes, sunken monoblock and damaged edges.
Can resin be put over the old surface instead?+
A resin overlay is a separate system and suitability decision. The condition of the base, preparation, levels and drainage must meet the proposed product requirements.
How much does driveway resurfacing cost?+
The area, preparation, access, repairs and drainage affect the quotation. Compare the complete proposed scope rather than a surface-only rate. No fixed price is assumed before the site is understood.
