The starting point changes the job
A clear, accessible area and a driveway with deep excavation, damaged drainage or difficult removal are different projects. The cost of the finish does not tell you how much preparation is needed.
Explain any history of sinking, water pooling or repeated repairs. These can influence the scope more than a change in surface colour.
The details that belong in a quotation
Ask for enough detail to compare like with like. A lower total can reflect a different scope rather than a better price.
- Measured area and surface specification
- Excavation, disposal and base preparation
- Edge restraints, steps and transitions
- Drainage work and its destination
- Inspection covers and access to services
- VAT treatment, payment stages and exclusions
Access and sequencing matter
Restricted equipment access, narrow entrances or the need to maintain a route to the house can affect the work. Tell the contractor about deliveries, parking needs and any access requirements before the proposal is prepared.
Ask which stages depend on weather or curing, and when it will be appropriate to walk or park on the new surface. Avoid relying on a single universal installation timescale.
Use a simple comparison checklist
Put the proposals side by side. Confirm what is included, what is excluded and how unexpected ground conditions would be handled. Any warranty, aftercare or quotation terms should be supplied in writing by the business offering them.
We have not published standard price ranges because the scope has not been assessed. Call with your postcode, approximate size and existing surface to start a more useful conversation.
