Car parks, private roads and farm access

Describe the actual traffic: cars, delivery vehicles, agricultural machinery or other heavy loads. Include turning areas, gradients, drainage and the need to keep parts of the site in use.

Car-park surfacing, pothole repairs, wider car-park repairs and line marking should be specified as separate items where relevant. Road surfacing and private-road work also require clarity about ownership, access and any permissions.

For farm driveways and longer approaches, discuss whether the proposed finish is asphalt, loose aggregate or a tar-and-chip surface dressing. Similar-looking proposals can involve different construction and aftercare.

Sports surfaces and school playgrounds

A multi-use games area (MUGA) or playground must be specified for its intended activities and users. Do not assume a domestic driveway surface will be appropriate.

Prepare the intended sports or play use, maintenance arrangements, drainage needs, access restrictions and any project-specific standards for review by a suitable specialist. We do not claim accreditation or guaranteed availability for this work.

Gates, lighting and vehicle crossings

The entrance may need input beyond surfacing. Gate foundations, movement, controls, electrical work and safe operation require the appropriate specialist expertise. Driveway lighting also needs a suitable design and installation.

A dropped kerb or vehicle crossing is a separate matter for the relevant roads authority. Confirm responsibilities and permissions before including public-side work in a private driveway quotation.

Send a useful first brief

Start by calling with the location and project type. Confirm that the scope can be considered before arranging a site visit or treating any estimate as a commitment.

  • Site location and ownership/contact responsibility
  • Approximate area, length and existing surface
  • Vehicle loads or intended sports/play use
